چکیده

This paper discusses the system aspects of development of applied programming interfaces in SoftwareDefined Networking (SDN). Almost all existing SDN interfaces use so-called Representational State Transfer (REST) services as a basic model. This model is simple and straightforward for developers, but often does not support the information (metadata) necessary for programming automation. In this article we cover the issues of representation of metadata in the SDN API. Keywords—SDN; northbound API; REST; metadata; WSDL; Parlay;

Enabling SDN in Old School Networks with Software-Controlled Routing Protocols

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) promises to significantly improve network manageability by enabling direct, and centralized control over the network forwarding state via a well-defined Application Programming Interface (API). Fulfilling this promise though is a challenge for network operators as it often requires heavy modifications to their current network architecture, including: i) equipme...

MonSamp: an SDN Application for QoS Monitoring

Software Defined Networks are intended to be less complex, more flexible, and free of vendor-lock-ins. Therefore the Software Defined Networking (SDN) instantiation OpenFlow has been designed according to these properties. The efforts are expected to result in lower expenditure and operational costs. To reach these objectives, mechanisms of classical networks that provide established functional...

Modular SDN Programming with Pyretic

Managing today’s computer networks is a complex and error-prone task. These networks consist of a wide variety of devices, from routers and switches, to firewalls, network-address translators, load balancers, and intrusion-detection systems. Network administrators must express policies through tedious box-by-box configuration, while grappling with a multitude of protocols and baroque, vendor-sp...
